Bidni

by Mediterranean Culinary Academy Ltd

The strong peppery taste of the ‘Bidni’ extra virgin olive oil holds within its nuances the centuries-old tale of the endemic trees that yield it; and the devoted husbandry of the Grima family who have dedicated their time and land to growing it. The Bidni variety was first discovered in small stretch of woodland in Bidnija, where trees believed to be centuries old are still thriving today. Despite being native to Malta, the Bidni variety of olive is relatively unknown and uncommonly cultivated since other foreign varieties are often preferred for their better quantitative yield of fruit and oil. The Grima family’s passion for local varieties and the knowledge of their motherland meant that they saw both the need and the benefit to preserve the Bidni olive variety for generations to come. Their reward is a beautifully robust oil with grassy notes and a noticeably distinct peppery taste that can be enjoyed on its own or as a condiment to a variety of dishes. The dedicated work of local farmers preserves a true part of our cultural heritage and identity. With your purchase you are helping support local, endemic products so that these unique varieties are carried forward to future generations.
